"Out of the Ashes" is a film series curated by Chan Yong Bu (Postdoctoral Fellow in Korea Institute and East Asian Languages and Civilizations), and Haden Guest (Director of the Harvard Film Archive) at the Harvard Film Archive.
The series aims to critically reflect on 70 years of the US-ROK alliance with 13 films of various genres from the 1950s and 1960s. The duration of the event "Out of the Ashes" is November 3 - December 3, 2023.
On NOVEMBER 3 (7:00 pm) and NOVEMBER 5 (3:00 pm), the event is showing the film "The Flower in Hell (Chiokhwa)" directed by Sang-ok Shin. The film is in Korean with English subtitles.
The screening of "The Flower in Hell" on November 3 is followed by the film "Nakdong River (Nakdonggang)", directed by Chang-keun Jeon. "Nakdong River" is in Korean with English subtitles as well.
