Disrupted Histories, Contested Futures: Korean Adoption, Politics, and Activism in Europe

7–8 May 2026, Organized by the Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies, Lund University, Sweden

This two-day conference brings together pioneering and younger generations of scholars, activists, and artists working on Korean transnational adoption in Europe and the Americas, including Scandinavia, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, the United States, and Bolivia.

The conference reflects on recent state-level investigations into Korean transnational adoption and takes Europe as a key site for thinking about Korean adoption beyond dominant US-centred frameworks, as well as the future of critical debates in the field.

The first day will feature a keynote lecture by Eleana Kim (University of California, Irvine) and a book reading by Korean Danish writer Lee Langvad. The second day will include two panels on histories and politics, followed by a roundtable discussion.

If you are in the area, you are more than welcome to join us. Registration is required.
