Drawing from her book, City of Sediments: A History of Seoul in the Age of Colonialism (Stanford University Press, 2023), Professor Oh will discuss how she reads space and spatial practices as a writing of history. Focusing on 1920s Seoul under Japanese colonial rule, she will explain how the urban space became a site of discursive production for Japanese colonialism, and how this can lend a new methodology called sedimentary history.
