BIO:

Colm Flanagan BEM has worked in education for over 30 years. His teaching career began in state education in inner-city London working in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the English capital. From 2001-2009 he was the Headmaster of St. Wilfrid’s Catholic School in York. In 2009 St. Wilfrid’s was adjudged by the UK’s regulatory body, OFSTED to be an ‘Outstanding’ school.

In 2010, Colm moved with his family to Santiago, Chile to take up the post of Headmaster of the Preparatory School where he enjoyed four years leading the country’s most prestigious school.

Colm is currently in his eleventh year as the Head of School at Seoul Foreign School, the oldest international school in Korea and an establishment committed to ‘educational excellence and building character.’ Under Colm’s leadership, SFS saw significant changes to the programs as the school has sought to articulate consistent and high-quality learning experiences for all students. Also, SFS has invested time and resources into fostering more connections with local and international charities to fulfill its mission to dedicate to “the service of others”. As a recognition of SFS’s dedication to service work, Colm was recognized in 2019 as an Honorary Citizen of Seoul. In 2022, he was also awarded the British Empire Medal in recognition of SFS’s commitment to community service in Korea.
