The Journal of Northeast Asian History (JNAH) welcomes submissions of research articles that make original contributions to understanding the history of Northeast Asia across all periods.
Research articles should be written in English and 7,000 to 9,000 words in length, including footnotes, references, an abstract, and keywords. All manuscripts should be submitted as an electronic file attachment in Microsoft Word format only. For the romanization of East Asian languages, use the "Revised Romanization of Korean" (The Korean Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 2000) for Korean, the Pinyin system for Chinese, and the Hepburn system for Japanese. For all the other formatting and editing rules, the 18th edition of The Chicago Manual of Style (University of Chicago Press, 2024) applies.
Please submit your manuscript and brief curriculum vitae by e-mail to jnah@nahf.or.kr or jnah.nahf@gmail.com. Submissions are available at all times, but to be qualified for publication in JNAH's winter 2025 issue, your manuscript must be submitted by August 31, 2025.
All eligible manuscripts submitted to JNAH undergo a peer review process conducted by three experts in the relevant field, as recommended by the editorial board members. Please note that even if a manuscript is approved by the reviewers, there may be an additional 6-month delay in publication due to previously accepted manuscripts.
The publication costs for JNAH are covered by the Northeast Asian History Foundation. Authors do not need to pay an article-processing charge. For an accepted article that presents original research not previously published in other academic journals, we also provide a publishing grant.
Please note: The Journal of Northeast Asian History will be published online starting in June 2025, with all articles made available to readers as open access, as they have been in previous issues.
